Restoring Google Search to a Simpler Look

Restoring Google Search to a Simpler Look

Judging by all the hub bub on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media services, Google users are not all that amused by the Bing like addition of photography to their search page. Let’s go ahead and fix that right now. While we can’t actually yet remove the Google search picture, we can replace the Google image with a pure white image to restore that white as snow fresh feeling.

*update: A scant 4hrs after launch Google stopped forcing the background image, but they have left the ability to customize it so the instructions below will still work.

Step 1: Right click and select save/download on this minty fresh and pure white Google search background image link. Make sure to save it somewhere you can find it, like your desktop.

Step 2: Locate the “Change background image” link in the bottom left hand side of the browser window.

Step 3: Select “From my computer” and then “Choose File” to browse your computer for the afore mentioned, downloaded, minty fresh white image from step number one. It will be named “clean-google-bg.gif”, unless you renamed it. Note that because this is a pure white image, it will appear to be missing if you change pictures and go to reselect it again.

Google depicturefication: step 2

Now search away without enduring the forced Bingification of your Google search page or read another Cirrus ABS blog post.
