Client Profile

Ranked in the top 50 of the Fortune 500, WellPoint is one of the world’s largest insurance and managed care organizations, encompassing many national and regional insurance-related brands throughout the U.S. The company partners with major retail outlets such as drug store and grocery chains to provide convenient service to customers through in-store insurance kiosks.

The sheer size of this program, which included thousands of agents and thousands of retail locations, became unmanageable for WellPoint. The company was tracking agents and stores through emails and spreadsheets, which proved to be inefficient and error-prone.

Wellpoint engaged Cirrus ABS to create a web-based system that would:
  • Manage the complex interactions and business rules necessary to automate administration of the program.
  • Track agent registrations and retail locations.
  • Display appropriate site branding for each user based on geographic location
  • Manage payment transactions and fulfill orders for supporting materials
  • Support each brand’s regulatory requirements

The Cirrus Solution

Cirrus ABS collaborated with WellPoint to design a system to meet their business requirements and then managed the development and ongoing support of the system.

Using its eBusiness Suite platform, Cirrus created a sophisticated solution that automates much of the previously manual process by allowing agents to sign up for the program, select locations, order supporting materials and make payment without any human intervention. The system allows WellPoint to manage and report on the status of the entire program through a single centralized dashboard.

The Results

The new online system helped WellPoint manage the program more efficiently and also reduced errors, increased user satisfaction and provided a range of innovative new features and capabilities not possible previously. The project was a tremendous success, and WellPoint is continuing to invest in the growth of the program and its management system.
